 visions beyond the veil

A vision differs from a dream in that it is shorter, although not necessarily less important. When I speak of "visions beyond the veil" I am not using the term to mean beyond death, but beyond the veil which normally covers human perception in this world. Because of this, it is very difficult to experience any real understanding in the realm of flesh and blood......if a person wanted to search out the meaning of life, for example.

A dream or a vision can take you beyond this limitation and open your spiritual eyes. If you read the Bible you will find many instances of visions which God gave to certain people in the ancient world, at special times. Sometimes these visions occurred at night, other times they occurred in the daytime when the people were awake.

For example the apostle Peter experienced a waking vision in the Book of Acts(Acts 10:9-16) when he was shown a great sheet let down from heaven, held at the four corners, and filled with all manner of animals. In this case the meaning of the vision was that the Gentiles (non-Jews) were now eligible for entrance into the ranks of God's Covenant People. As another example, the prophet Ezekiel in the Old Testament was given a vision in which he was supernaturally shown what was happening in the Temple at Jerusalem (physically, he was a long way off from there) where a number of formally respectable elders had turned into idolaters (Ezekiel 8:1-18). A third vision can be seen in the one that was given to the prophet Ezekiel in the Old Testament (1:1-28) in which he was permitted to see into Heaven, and behold heavenly creatures which almost nobody else has ever seen.

Generally speaking, the visions which you can read about in the Bible are very great in scope and meaning, and extremely supernatural. Although God does indeed grant very startling and important visions today, most of the visions which the Christian will have, are less dramatic. This is not to say that they will not be revolutionary, at least to the person involved! Even an apparently small vision has the power to transform a life, and indeed many lives! In an era when people have been trained under humanistic school-systems the power of these manifestations is not at all appreciated...but it is not too much to say that a single real vision from God can 1) set a lifetime goal, 2) reveal something which could not otherwise be known, 3) effect a radical change in one's thinking, 4) provide encouragement in a hopeless situation.
